When my 1st DH was Longline fishing in NC, an old codger told me one day to use Colgate toothpaste when I washed his 2 week old fishy smelling clothes. It's the sodium laurel sulfate in the toothpaste that knocks out the stink. I just disolved half a tube in a cup of water and poured it into the LAUNDRAMAT washer. Worked like a charm.
Since you're taking the bedspread back you don't need this info but thought I'd add it for future reference. Might have worked.
