DH and I did this back in the late 90's when we had an ice storm and no power for two weeks. The solar lights lit the house up just fine. The stores were sold out of solar lights faster then generators the second day. DH learned fast what it takes to make it without power for two weeks! He has everything prepared and keeps updated for power outages. Even bought battery powered fans if it's hot weather. They work great on the deck, so stay in working order. He was an Eagle Scout so being prepared has stayed with him all these years. There are lots of solar powered items available now in electronic catalogs. In the jungle areas batteries can't be use, they corrode too fast so solar is the only option other then generator power. It's amazing to see what is available.
