A number of years ago, Chicago had a Fourth of July concert in Grant Park. We could listen to the concert on the radio. At the conclusion of "The 1812 Overture", fireworks were shot off from a barge across Lake Shore Drive from Monroe Harbor. A friend had a sailboat moored at Monroe and it happened to be the closest mooring to the barge. We could see the shadows of the workers running around setting off the fireworks. Absolutely spectacular!!! My very best Fourth of July ever spending it on the lake with family and good friends.
Very similar, but in Boston, they shoot off the fireworks from a barge on the Charles River. We were on the tugboat that came to pull the barge back out. Fireworks coming right at you, unbelievable.
