Welcome Bonnie from Southern California. Are you going to add a border? If you set the blocks 11 x 11 you will end up with a 93.5 in square. You can also do it 11 x 12 if you want it longer length. An 11 x 11 needs 121 blocks, 11 x 12 needs 132. This amount can be adjusted if you do decided to add borders. Hope this helps.
May I recommend trying a smaller size quilt for your 1st one? A queen is pretty big and it may become overwhelming for you. Maybe try a baby size or a small lap size quilt for the 1st one to be able to work out the kinks!
