I didn't notice a difference, but it might depend on the bobbin type. The bobbins in my machine are curved on the outside, not flat, so there isn't as much contact to the washer as there would be on the flat ones. I think I've read that it makes a difference if they are vertical vs. drop in too. Mine is a drop in.
