After I fold my binding over and iron it, I sew it 1/8" together on the unfinished side to keep it from pushing apart when I'm sewing it onto my quilt. It really helps. It lays flat and no more surprises.
I apply light starch on the binding as I fold it and press. Keeps it together and smooth.
