I think it would be find with a jelly roll. I would do the light to dark for the variation more than the width of the strips anyways.... Here is a link for the pattern that I found when I googled the pattern.

I bought small Jelly Rolls from this site:
http://www.jellyrollfabric.net/ One set was light pink; the second was light pinks and spring greens mixed; another was different prints of lavender and the last was strips of different purples.
You might follow the tutorial link (below) to see just how easy it would be to do the Hidden Wells pattern using this method. This tutorial never mentions the Hidden Wells, but watch what she does and you will see how easy it would be to adapt to the pattern.
