You will have to test the attachments. I know the darning foot made for and came with the 401 doesn't work on the 301. And of course the 401 walking foot won't mesh with the 301 feed dogs.
The 404 is a straight stitch only machine, just like the 301. I don't have a walking foot or a darning foot. I did find out that the walking foot and darning foot for the 401 won't fit the 301, I used to have them. I've since gifted them to someone who can use them.
