I have a very basic Singer serger mostly because that is all could afford at the moment. It is not easy to thread but it is not impossible either - frustrating, yes, especially if you do not thread it right. Tension is what kills me because it is really sensitive. If she needs a serger and plans on using it often I would look beyond basic like mine and go for something less frustrating. My MIL has Husquarna and loves it, although threading is as hard as mine.
