Default Have anyone tried to quilt a crewel work bedspread??

So I bought a lovely bedspread at a tag sale with beautiful crewel work that was done by an 80 year old lady. It was $20 and I just could not let it go unappreciated.

However it was made for a full size bed and I have a queen. So I thought that I would add borders, sandwich it, and do FMQ on the top in the white spaces. I have always wanted to do a whole cloth quilt and this will be close but will also mix nicely with the crewel work.

However, since it is (I think) linen, it is HEAVY and slippery!! I am hoping that once it is sandwiched and I get it onto the machine it will go ok, but I will take any advice i can get for working with material of this type. I am using my mid arm and i have my drop leaf extended to support the weight.

Any advice?????
