My Janome has done that. I took it into the dealer and bought a new foot. That didn't change a thing. It did it again. I blame it on the computer. It does it off and on. I just turn off the machine I get a FC error. It hasn't done it lately. I just know when it is having a fit, that eventually it will go back to being nice. Not going to buy another foot and hate to be without my machine, so I just deal.
That is my machine exactly as you have described above. I am also of the opinion that it is the computer as I have tried using my machine in different rooms and that has made a difference - tv on/off, radio on/off, computer on/off also makes a difference depending on the time of day or direction of the appliance.
I now only use the foot pedal to wind the bobbin then I remove it and only use the stop/start button for all my sewing.
