Holice - You have articulated what I believe I am recognizing but not really wanting to admit! I'll attach a couple of pictures. The borders have a fairly close serpentine stitch going around the quilt (approximately a foot's width between columns and then the sashing with the circles. The blocks look a little unbalanced. But I don't think a stipple is the answer. Maybe a small but not dense pebble.
