You might try getting some Beacon fast finish decoupage. Mix it 3 tablespoons to a cup of water and very carefully dab ( I used make up sponges) this solution on the fabric. Don't brush because the color will run. It needs to be all covered. Let it dry completely. It will be a little stiffer than other fabric but it should be permanent then. I don't know if it needs to be heat set but I have anyway. I did this with plain white muslin I had printed on and have washed them with no change in color. You might experiment on another piece till you have the right formula then do your quilt.

I'm sure the quilts won't be washed a lot, but I don't want something that is going to disappear when it goes in the wash. Is there any way to treat this, so it won't wash out?
