You might try getting some Beacon fast finish decoupage. Mix it 3 tablespoons to a cup of water and very carefully dab ( I used make up sponges) this solution on the fabric. Don't brush because the color will run. It needs to be all covered. Let it dry completely. It will be a little stiffer than other fabric but it should be permanent then. I don't know if it needs to be heat set but I have anyway. I did this with plain white muslin I had printed on and have washed them with no change in color. You might experiment on another piece till you have the right formula then do your quilt.
