So many questions. How many colors will you be using? Are the blocks all solid colors? Are the blocks made from pieces of fabric sewn into patterns? Do you want yardage for sashings? Borders? Bindings?

If all you need to know is how much yardage to buy inorder to cut 153 5" blocks from one color with no attention to pattern or direction of weave, then usually the fabric is 42" wide. subtract 1" from each side for selvages. That leaves 40 inches. divide that by 5 and you can cut 8 blocks across the width of the fabric. Divide the 153 total number needed by the 8 you can cut across the width and you get 19.125 which means you will need 20 widths of fabric that is 5 inches wide to cut the blocks. You will need a piece of fabric 42 inches wide by 100 " long or dividing 100 by 36 you need to buy 2.7 yds. I would buy 3 yds myself.

If your finished size if 5" then these figures are wrong.
