Why not do a simple thing like a Big Block Quilt where you showcase the fabric without cutting it? I do not know how many pieces come in the layer cake, but if you sew them 8 per row and 10 rows in total you should be fine for with and length. It is simple but effective cottage pattern that showcases the fabric - no sashing, no borders, just blocks and binding and backing of your choice. Good luck!
