No. As someone else said, we're talking about 2 different techniques here. I like my binding to be double layers and narrow. So, first I cut my binding strips 2.25" wide, not 2.5". Then I fold it in half lengthwise. This makes my binding 1.25" wide. Then I take the raw edges of the long side of the binding (not the folded edge), align those with the raw edge of the quilt, and sew 1/4" from the edge of the quilt. Then I fold the binding to the back and hand-sew it down.
