there are some batts that recommend 2" apart- some (warm & natural) that recommends up to 10" apart---and others in between- it is always important to check the specific batting you are using- they all have their own specifications- some say good for tied quilts- some require fairly dense quilting- each is it's own. generally a batt with scrim is 8-10" between quilting lines- batts like mountain mist (prefered by hand quilters) needs to be quilted much more densely.
