Fox, I'd love to see pics of your machine! Is it a W&W6?
I have used my 8 with the glass foot in place, but was VERY watchful and careful. I didn't do much, just some "test sewing" with it as I'm just too concerned over the fragility of the decals to do much else! I would advise, if you are going to use the machine with the glass foot in place that you go slow and steady, making sure that the needle isn't pulled so that it doesn't hit the glass.
I've never checked into having new glass inserts made. When I get to the point that I'm ready to make a quilt on the 8, I will use the steel straight stitch foot that I have for it. (Yes, I'm a big chicken!!
)
