Keep at it! It's so rewarding to see something take shape that you've done all on your own. I recently started a 60 degree diamond star quilt, too. Each side of my diamonds are 1.5 inches. I'm using diamonds to separate, though. I started mine as a travel quilt- something I could do in the car. My parents and in-laws both live about 4 hours away, so a weekend visit allows me about 8 hours of stitiching time. I've also found that I enjoy stitching while watching tv with DH after the DDs are in bed. Very little on tv requires your full attention. I figure each star takes about 1 hour- start to finish.
