Welcome from Minneapolis! I'm a garment sewer too, and the main difference you'll find is that in quilting you'll be using a 1/4" seam for everything rather than a 5/8". Definitely follow the advice to see Missouri Star Quilt Company's videos on YouTube - they're very educational and you'll find Jenny Doan's instructions easy to follow.
