Quilts for Kids has a cute easy pattern, alternate a nine patch with a solid block.
There are many websites that have free patterns for crib/lap quilts.
I've seen pictures posted here of lap quilts where strips of fabric the width of the quilt are sewn together until you get the length you want, don't know the name of the pattern, but easy enough to do without instructions.
A great way to use up all those leftover strips of fabric.
