When I did the 2" squares, I sewed together 2-2" strips from my scrappy stash, then cut them up into 2" widths so there were in groups of 2, threw them in a bag then pulled them out randomly and sewed them together to make the 16 patch middles. That way they were random and no two the same, but I wasn't sewing individual squares together which would be very tedious.

I ended up making too many 16 patches, so I just kept making them this quilt. By the time I was done with the third, I was kind of tired of it! But in truth, how neat it looks made me keep wanting to try it in a different color. The first one I did was yellow.

I really have a lot of scraps and was trying to make a dent in them. In 2011, we finished over 80 charity quilts, and just the finishing of them alone created a ton of scraps, just from the leftover trimmings from the backings. Plus, some people gave me their scraps/very small pieces...
