If it's tinking the bobbin case, it may be that you aren't opening the slot all the way and pushing the needle up as high as it will go in the slot before clamping it back down. It's also possible that there is lint or "crud" packing the top of the needle slot, preventing it from seating as high up as it needs to be.

The other issue is hook/needle timing. There are a few machines I that I'm capable of timing, if I had to - but the 6235 isn't one of them. (That's a machine from the 80's, isn't it?)

If you check the seating of the needle and the slot is clear so you know it's up as high as it will go and you know that you have the correct class of needle, then you're going to have to dink around with the timing. I hope it's not that! Good luck!
