You could do a bunch of it with strip piecing.
I was looking at the block a couple of weeks ago.
I
personally didn't care for the pieced look (especially on the background fabric) - though I totally understood why it was originally done that way.
I was willing to do the extra work and lose some of the benefits of strip piecing.
But I don't think that route is for everyone.
