Nancy,

I agree with you here on the large number of off shoot threads starting to be too much of a read or even try to search through.

One of my reasons for starting an additional thread related to vintage machines was for one to easily find a tutorial which I spent some great deal of time writing up to share with others (and all linked from this thread during time of posting). Examples of these are the National Two Spools CAN, Changing the Race Wick, and Converting a Singer Cabinet to fit a Two Spools. Another reason was for folks to see that vintage machines could still be used(a good reason to rescue a vintage machine). So, I started the thread Quilts Made with Vintage Machines so that others can see that there are those that are using a vintage (100 year old) machine to make a quilt and/or clothing. Plus, it is easy to find, and always fun to see what others have made with their vintage machines. The quilts made with vintage machines thread is now a sticky. That thread is easy to find since it is at top of page, but my other threads, tutorials, are pages deep somewhere.

The Sewing Machine Shop Photo thread was only to be photos of machines as a quick reference with no discussion ( it states this on the first posting), which Billy started after numerous folks asked for that thread. It also is a sticky thread.

Glenn has his thread for cabinets, Charlee started the Vintage Giggles, and then there is the FW thread. All are good shoot offs, but they get lost from time to time in the pages.

As we all know, new folks discover this wonderful site and start posting even though most of their threads could just be posted into this thread. Their threads are really not unique or different from many of the past posts or questions that have already been addressed on this main VSMS thread. (Blunt, but true)

My guess is that those folks want to separate themselves for some reason...what and/or why.... I really don't know. All I do know is that I have stop reading all of the shoot off threads to make my life easier.
