I've also used one of the cardboard cutting boards (for cutting out clothing patterns - like this:
http://www.joann.com/superboard-40-x...prd_01025055a/ ) on my kitchen table - I do half at at time - use binder clips (like this:
http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/ca...affixedcode=WW ) to fasten the layers on one side, spray baste.
The cutting board protects my table from overspray (if using spray baste) or pins.
