Actually, I thought they would think the aprons were pretty lame but they really like making them and the pattern I use incorporates about every basic technique they would ever need to know to do just about any other pattern they would choose in the future. My sample apron uses 3 different fabrics that compliment each other so they can see how it can be jazzed up, and I have embroidery machines in my classroom so they can add designs on their pockets if they want. And they don't have to make the apron for themselves, I've had kids make them for their siblings, boyfriends, girlfriends, moms, dads, grandparents, friends. Haven't had a complaint about the project yet.
