Here's a great blog post by Leah Day....the sample quilt is much, much smaller and the blocks are a bit different, but the Barn Raising concept it still very evident.

Whether it's doing fancy FMQ or straight line stitching, I love how she's at least following the design of the blocks.
I am a SITDer and a cross hatcher, but it is because it is all I can do. Can't afford a LA or hiring a LAer. Sttching in the ditch doesn't distract the eye from all of that time and money creating beautiful design in piecing. I do like straight line stitching that follow the design, but FMQ is out of the question as far as my skills go. I suppose it's all in the eye of the beholder as to what people like.
