Try Sam's Club. I suspect that any kitchen supply department at Costco or other similar store would have them. And they are relatively inexpensive. The towels at Sam's are so large you will need to cut them in half. I don't think they would be great for embroidery, but I beieve they would be great for the project you are describing.
