When I have a focus fabric like that, I cut irregular pieces with usually 5 straight sides and do "sew and flip". You can use your coordinates plus scraps to fill out a larger square by "sewing and flipping". This makes a whimsical design, suitable for the young at heart.

You could also do "square in a square", which would make a nice frame for the focus pieces.
