Well, when I first looked at it, my eye was drawn to the center, with just the green border, but when I saw it with the gold, it drew me to the gold border more than to the center. I think I would have to look at it a few times too. I think I might like it with just the green border and then maybe binding it in the gold.
If it's going in a room that you want it to look more gold I'd add the gold border, otherwise I'd leave it off.
