Can someone direct me, how is the best way to sew a hanging sleeve so the quilt hangs flat in front? I know I need to leave some ease to allow for the dowel, but I'm not sure how much. This quilt will be hanging in Houston, so I want it to look its best.
I use a yard stick to give me enough slack in the hanging sleeve. I sew the raw edges of the sleeve on with the binding and then finish the binding as usual. Then when I'm ready to do the hand stitching on the sleeve I take a yard stick and put it thru the sleeve and then push it up so it's just below the top edge of the binding and re-iron a new crease in the sleeve for the hand stitching line.
