My apologies ... I could not see the three colours !!

Here's another way to do the blocks.
Make a white and red block as I explained earlier.
Make a tan and red block in the same fashion.
Cut each in 1/4 ... then shuffle the 1/4s so you have the "bite" look.

One change from the original... the centre red will now be four squares joined together.
Yet these would complement the multi-colour look of the white/tan sections.
Therefore, my suggestion would be to use a different red with the white than the tan ... then when the blocks are put together you have the two in a 4P in the centre.
If the reds are similar but different, it'll just give a little more WOW to a simple block
