Draw your design on just one paper. Stack your 6 papers together, tape the edges here and there and "sew" without thread to mark the design. Then follow the dots to do your quilting. It is so much easier!
Your border would look pretty if you echo around the applique and fill in the rest with stipple or some other filler.
