Lots of good suggestions here, but I love the pattern in the #22 post. It would be easy to make the center blocks the colors of the teams. The centers could be 4-patch or 1/2 triangles (or combo) alternating the team blocks. For borders, do top and one side one team's colors, then the bottom and other side for the other team.
