I have a huge pile of my Father's neck ties that I will use in the future. The first thing I did when I brought them home is wash them in my washing machine with Tide. Mind you I had a giant tangled ball when I went to remove them but at least they were clean. I hung them on the line outside after de- tangling them. Any that did not look good after the wash, I got rid of. Since thy were my ties it was not a problem.
I would contact the person and tell them they are going for a trip in the washing machine to see if the stains will come out. At that time they can either let you know if they want to use them clean but with stains or only use the nice ones.
