You do need to have this machine in a base of some sort as there are parts on the bottom of the machine won't work right if you just set it on a table. I have a 66-1 with red eye decals, it sews beautifully.

Correct. I removed a motor from my 66 and added a hand crank. I have it sitting in the base of a portable case. I have to connect with my woodworking BIL to make me a nice rectangular base for it. Like this:
