What exactly is "bobbin work"? It is not a term I have heard before.
It's a way to use heavier threads than you could possibly thread through the upper part of your machine. You wind the thread on the bobbin, usually by hand, and stitch with the wrong side of your fabric facing up. That leaves the fancy thread on the right side.
It was quite scary the first time, but it's really fun.
