Need Ideas -- using 5" Halloween Squares lap quilts and pillows
I'm new at this quilting thing and, at the quilt guild meeting last week, I won a charm pack of 100 pieces of 5" square Halloween fabric for kids.
My g/d's ages 6 and 4 helped to divide the fabric into 50 pieces for each of them, then and we laid them out 7 squares across and down. I sewed them together with no sashing. Now just need to add a border, backing and quilt. I had some pieces left over...maybe 12 pieces....so I cut quarter square triangles and sewed two together. Now have about 12 squares ready to do something with.
My question is should I use a thin batting or maybe some flannel, to make a backing or use minky, and what do I do with the 12 squares?I thought about making a pillowcase to match for each of the girls using 6 squares for each. Should I wash the the quilts with a color catcher so the colors don't bleed? Just need some advice. This is a very colorful quilt and I'd hate to mess it up by washing and see the colors bleed but it's going to get dirty so I want to do the right thing.
Will post pics when finished.
Thanks!
