Sometimes simplicity could be the answer. How about a simple 9-patch quilt. You can use your scraps in either the X's or the crosses then add a solid in the rest of the block. The solids would tie it all together, even if it's as simple of either solid white or solid black.
I'm currently taking my scraps from projects that I'm cutting and turning them into 2.5" squares and bagging them. I took part in a 9-patch scrappy swap so I can also use these blocks in this venture. I'm planning to make 2 twin summer quilts for my son's/guest room to make it more homey and welcoming in a white/neutral theme.
Just some thoughts.
