Since Glenn and Joe missed your question, I will answer it! I have had to re-veneer several cabinets! Sometimes, you will get lucky and all the veneer is still there - just needs to be re-glued, refinished! But, if a cabinet has veneer missing, yes you will have to re-veneer the top!

I have patched missing parts on veneer with pieces from other projects. The thing is you need to match the grain as close as you can and the type of wood. If you get a different type of wood you'll have to play around with the stains to make the colors match.
