I just finished a lap quilt out of scrapes, pattern is called X's and O's, a tute from Missouri Star Quilt Company. I have been cutting up my "Leftovers" into 6" squares and then into strips for my string quilts....I think what made this one not look 'so scrappy' was the addition of the same color corners....that was the unifying theme thru out. Like with my string quilt that had all black strips in the center of each block......I think if you have one piece the same thru out the quilt, be it even a simple black or white fabric, that seems to unify and give your quilt a more classic look rather than what some people call Scrappy or un-organized and scattered....IMHO
