I also have had this happen. When the wheel won't move, you just have to disassemble as much as you can and then get your little bitty pliers and either pull straight down or straight up on the part of the needle that's left. I've never thought about breaking the needle again and would be afraid to do that because I might bend the shaft. No one ever told people who sew that they may have to act as serendipitous mechanics! froggyintexas

I have hand turned my wheel and managed to get a jammed needle out. Another time it was jammed so tight the wheel would not move. I loosened the screw that holds the needle in place, took off the foot so I had room to work. I had to remove the bobbin and case also. I managed to get the fabric and loose needle out and then re-assembled everything to sew.
