Agreed!

Each time I bind a quilt, I cut my binding and pin it to the front and fold it over to note where the edge of the binding will end ... to see if it will cover the machine stitch from the front. If not, I adjust where I stitch the binding to the front so I have enough to turn over. There is no "rule" that your binding has to be X number of inches, or it has to be sewn X inches from the edge of the quilt. I would definately use up the fabric that I have and adjust the binding rather than buy more fabric or choose a binding that I liked less.
