I noticed this with my machine and it makes me glad that I have both Janomes...as they both use the same bobbins. I transfer the half used (or more) bobbin over to the area where I'm sewing and use them up while piecing. If I'm in a really "aware" mode---that's when I use up all my "mostly empty" bobbins.
I did solve a lot of problems by buying a lot more bobbins. Then, I wind 10 or more white or off white all at the same time and only save back a few empty ones for certain colors. I tend to use mostly white or offwhite in the bobbin unless it really is a dark colored fabric or am working on binding where I need a certain color.
