I agree with the others - just cut the paper bits off. I found that I could not get all of the glue off the samples I had, and since I wasn't going to wash the project I was making I didn't want weird changes in texture. Use a heavy needle, keep your stitches on the small side, and your seam allowance large - many of the upholstery fabrics I have used frayed like crazy!
