I don't know if this will help you out but.....
Here's a modified wheel from EQ.
You can enlarge it to whatever size you want - if the cogs are too big, you can chop them down.
Cut the ring of cogs out. You can paper piece the ring, and then reattach it to your center circle.
Or you can do it in quarters - like a NYBeauty block, with cogs instead of spikes.
And you should investigate fusible applique.
So very easy and quick.
Really.
If you were thinking of pp-ing this block, you have no need to be scared of applique.
You could try Wonder-under or Steam-A-Seam 2 lite (if those are available where you live),
and there are many other products out there.
With the Steam-A-Seam 2 Lite (short version),
you can print the pattern right on the fusible paper backing,
place on fabric,
cut out the gear motif,
pull off the paper,
and place on the background fabric.
Almost done.
A little zig zag around the edges to keep them down.
And...done.
How easy was that?
