OOOOHHHHH QuiltE, I have tried applique, both needleturn and by machine. I did a BOM needleturn Baltimore way way way back when I thought "that looks easy I can do it" weeeelllll 9 yes 9 blocks and 10 don't fall off the chair 10 years later I had the blocks finished but still had to do the borders..
I piked out and just sewed a border on it and called it done. It is in the wardrobe somewhere In my defense I was working full time at the time, by girlfriend took 3 years to finish hers but she is an overachiever. I think I have a photo somewhere, will see if I can find it
