Well this year was interesting at our house. We had a frozen turkey in our freezer that our daughter got from work. I was under the impression it was about 12 pounds. So two days before Thanksgiving we got it out and I was SHOCKED to see the size of this bird. It was at least 18 pounds, maybe 20, no tag on it so we could tell for sure. We thawed it in the fridge for a day and realized that was not going to cut it, thawed it in the sink with cold water for a day and then got out our old aluminum roaster that has roasted a whole flock of turkeys and it wouldn't fit...tried my small electric roaster, too small. Finally my husband got up in the attic area of our garage and got out the HUGE electric roaster and we ended up cooking the turkey all night at 200 degrees to finish thawing, turning up the heat at 5:00 a.m. and finally got him done by 11:00 and took the insert out and browned him in the oven for half an hour. What a TRIAL! I have been cooking turkeys for 60 years and this was the oddest situation EVER. Had a wonderful dinner with family anyway and we'll have some laughs to remember now that it's over and everything turned out all right!
