I have the Viking mega quilter 18x8 and the platinum 3000 is the modified model you could say of mine. I know that the platinum has a screen now to switch between manual and automatic mode but I am not sure what other stuff has changed. I love my setup but like every other machines it is a learning curve. When I first got mine I was about to throw it out the window. Now I love it and know what to do "most of the times" when something goes wrong. It is just a matter of getting the feel of it.
